They allow to read the amount of vertical shift from behind the camera or horizontal shift when standing in front of the camera. With milimeter markings and "eye-friendly" protector.

This scale stick shows you the "X" movement (lateral shift) of your ALPA 12 XY. Especially helpful if you stand in front of your camera (interior situation). The same stick gets used as vertical shift stick (rise and fall) for the ALPA 12 MAX.
